Hero of the Spanish Reconquista. His real name: Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. The Moors called him El Cid (the Lord), the Christians El Campeador (the Champion). He became prince of Valencia in 1094, followed by his wife Jimena. His statue is located Plaza Mio Cid in Burgos, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain.
